Circulation system
The DCI library uses Destiny from Follett as library circulation software for print materials, and Overdrive (Sora) for ebooks and audiobooks. All students and faculty/staff hold active library accounts for both systems.
Borrowing - Print
Patrons are allowed up to five print check-outs at any given time for a loan period of twenty-one days (three weeks). Patrons must be physically present to check out print material.
Returns
Library materials should be returned to the black return bin just inside the inner library.
Renewals
Patrons have the opportunity to renew materials as long as there are no active holds. Patrons can renew their materials up to two times, extending the loan period by a total of six weeks.
Holds
Students may place up library materials on hold in person or via our online catalog. Holds will remain active for seven days after they are pulled.
Overdue materials
Patrons will be notified of overdue materials on a bi-weekly basis. No overdue fines will be assessed for print materials. If a book is overdue after two periods of renewal, it will be marked as lost.
Lost/Damaged materials
Patrons are responsible for the full cost and or replacement of any lost/damaged materials. Fines will be assessed and billed to student accounts on a monthly basis. In place of paying the amount necessary to replace the material(s) patrons may provide a replacement copy of the book.
English Class Books and Textbooks
Students are often assigned books for class through the library. Textbooks and English class books have a longer loan period; around three months. Fines are only assessed for lost books, following the policy stated above under lost/damaged.
Teacher borrowing
Teachers are able to borrow up to 10 materials at a time with flexible loan periods. Loan periods and number of materials can be adjusted per teacher request. We also encourage teachers to obtain a DC Public Library Educator Card. Information on obtaining a DCPL Educator card can be found here. Please see the librarian if you need further assistance.
