TeenLife is a great resource for summer opportunities! Some are academically focused, others are skills-based, and all are engaging and fun, offering enrichment opportunities for teens to expand their horizons.
Snow Day is another great resource that curates out-of-school opportunities from college experts, educators, and families!
Snowday is built by and for students, parents, and educators! They are driven by their mission to make the education sector radically more open and easily navigable—by aggregating the collective insights of students, parents, and education experts.

Below is a list of pre-college programs designed for students! Pre-college programs give high school students an opportunity to take college-level classes on-site or in hybrid settings! Some programs also have scholarships for students that express financial need.

RISE Research is a selective 1-on-1 virtual mentorship program where high school students publish original research, win awards, and gain global recognition under Ivy League PhD mentors.
Led by current West Point cadets, Summer Leaders Experience (SLE) is a five-day immersion into a West Point cadet's academic, military, and social life. SLE is for rising high school seniors who are interested in learning more about West Point and the qualities required to succeed as a cadet.
SLE takes place the summer between your junior and senior year. High school juniors should apply between 15 February and 15 April of their junior year.
At SLE, you will explore West Point from all angles, including our high-tech academic facilities, team-building athletic activities, and realistic military training. You'll also gain firsthand insight into the character, determination, commitment to excellence, and leadership skills expected of West Point cadets.
If you’re a high-achieving high school junior from a low-income background, the QuestBridge College Prep Scholars Program can help you dream big about college and beyond! QuestBridge works with 55 college partners across the nation as well as premier service providers to equip you with the knowledge and confidence to apply to — and afford — a top college.
Awards for College Prep Scholars are specially designed to connect you with the experiences and resources for your college application journey. QuestBridge can help you achieve your dreams, and applying to the College Prep Scholars Program could be your first step.
The School2Lab program is open to motivated scholars in grades 10-11 who are passionate about STEMM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics, and Medical Health Professions). The program seeks students with exceptional academic merit, a passion for learning, and a desire to become future leaders in scientific fields. Selected students will receive both hands-on research experience and academic enrichment at the research laboratories of Howard University or Johns Hopkins School of Medicine’s Sibley Memorial Hospital in Washington DC.
Interested/recommended rising juniors and seniors may add their name to our mailing list by completing the Student Interest Survey to receive announcement and updates about the program.
The Mayor Marion S. Barry Summer Youth Employment Program (MBSYEP) is a locally funded initiative sponsored by the Department of Employment Services (DOES) that provides District youth ages 14 to 24 with enriching and constructive summer work experiences through subsidized placements in the private and government sectors.
MBSYEP strives to provide young people with the opportunity to earn money and gain meaningful work experience, learn and develop the skills, attitudes, and commitment necessary to succeed in today’s world of work, gain exposure to various career industries, and interact with dynamic working professionals in a positive work environment!

DCTAG is the District of Columbia Tuition Assistance Grant. The DCTAG program is administered by the Office of the State Superintendent of Education.
DCTAG pays the difference between in-state and out-of-state tuition, up to $10,000 annually at public colleges and up to $2,500 at private colleges in DC and private HBCUs, nationwide. Students that pay in-state tuition at their college or university are not eligible to receive DCTAG.
The Cathedral Scholars Program (a summer worksite for DC Marion Barry's Summer Youth Employment Program) is recruiting 9th graders to become new Scholars. The Cathedral Scholars Program is a four-year college preparatory program that provides academic enrichment, professional and career exploration, leadership development, and community engagement experience for selected high school students in DC Public and Charter High Schools. Become a Lifeguard for the Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR)!
DPR uses the International Lifeguard Training Program (ILTP) to train and certified lifeguards to work at both indoor and outdoor aquatic facilities across the District. Click here to register for an upcoming course.
The ILTP is an objective driven program that produces lifeguards that perform at a higher level than those of other national/international training agencies. It is a unique, comprehensive lifeguard training program; the content includes Health Care Provider level CPR (one and two person CPR, AR, Foreign Body Airway Obstruction, and AED training), Emergency Oxygen Administration training, and First Aid, along with state-of–the-art rescue techniques.

The Rock Creek Conservation Corps (RC3) program provides high school students with a 6-week paid summer job in the conservation field. Students gain hands-on field experience, learn about environmental restoration efforts, and develop teamwork and leadership skills. Students learn about forest health, water quality, and stormwater management, and apply what they learn by participating in invasive plant removals, litter cleanups, and other related activities.
Exelon Foundation STEM Academy
The Exelon Foundation STEM Academy is now accepting applications!
With over 1,200 alumnae since 2018, the Exelon Foundation STEM Academy has welcomed young women to spend the week learning about energy and sustainability, meeting employees and executives who work in STEM, and developing their personal and professional leadership skills.

The Exelon Foundation Boys to STEM Academy is now accepting applications!
Since 2024, we have welcomed over 250 young men to join us to spend a week learning about energy and sustainability, meeting employees and executives who work in STEM, and developing their personal and professional leadership skills.

BroadFutures DC summer cohort application is open! This is a great option for graduating seniors looking to prep for college or their next step while getting real world experience. We partner with a wide range of employers, including The Willard Hotel (hospitality), DCTV (communications/production), and Atlas Performing Arts Center (general administration) all committed to creating meaningful, inclusive experiences for neurodivergent young adults.
*Students must be 18 and have their HS diploma.
