2-YEAR COLLEGES

Often called community colleges or junior colleges, these institutions offer programs that typically take two years to complete. Students can earn an associate's degree or a certificate in a specific field. 

Many students choose 2-year colleges because they:

• Provide an affordable way to start college

• Offer flexible schedules, including evening and online classes

• Have smaller class sizes and more personalized support

• Can be a stepping stone for students that do not feel adequately prepared for college—credits earned can often be transferred to a 4-year college to continue toward a bachelor’s degree. Many schools have transfer agreements with specific 4-year universities that allow students to seamlessly transfer schools.
