Football Teams

YEAR 07

The Duchess's entered two 5-a-side football teams in a festival staged at NCEA.

Duchess A defeated NCEA, Rothbury and St Benet Biscop. A final against Chantry meant the winner of the game would progress to the next round. Duchess took an early 2-0 lead but Chantry were threatening and ended up getting the game back to 2-2. Duchess continued to attack and once again went in the lead to make it 3-2. Chantry in the end out played Duchess and were 5-3 winners at the full time whistle. An entertaining final against the best two teams there. Stand out performances were Frankie Clements and Bailey Burnlees both scoring hat-tricks in separate games.

Duchess B played some entertaining and competitive football but were also defeated in their final game stopping them progressing further in the competition. All the of the year 7 students involved were a credit to the themselves and the school.

Year 08

The U13 football team have had an excellent attitude towards training and games. High numbers attending training have resulted in lots of students representing the team.

So far in the league, Duchess have played two games and lost two games. Ponteland and Rothbury Middle School had two very good teams and provided a rather tough challenge for the opening two games of the season.

A cup fixture against Haydon Bridge resulted in Duchess winning 10-0 with a superb hat-trick from Jake Carruthers. Tom Brown also scored a brace, rounding off a fantastic team performance. Cramlington Learning Village, who are a very talented footballing team, were the next opponents in the cup. Unfortunately Duchess were knocked out the cup at this stage but have plenty of league games to look forward to.

Sam Young, Bailey Burnlees and Frankie Clements (all year 7 students) have represented the U13 team this year. Well done to James Anderson, who has captained the team and led from the front. Congratulations goes to Robbie Swordy and Tom Storey who have been selected for the East Northumberland SFA U13 B team.

Years 09 & 10

The U14 and U15 teams have so far played two league games, each against Berwick and Ashington Academies, resulting in two defeats.

The U14 team faced a tough draw against Walbottle Campus in the cup, which resulted in a defeat. The U15 team more than played their part in a narrow 4-3 defeat against Berwick Academy in the first game of the season. Duchess were 4-2 down and scored with five minutes to go, making it 4-3. Thanks to Lewis Fairburn, who set up an exciting finish to the game. Not without trying, Duchess failed to score an equalizer in the dying stages, regardless of putting the Berwick defence under constant pressure in this stage of the game.

Both teams have numerous league fixtures to play and are looking forward to playing some competitive matches. Well done to Felix Wilson who has captained the U15 team and led from the front. Congratulations goes to Jack Grisdale who has been selected for the East Northumberland SFA U14 Boys A team
