BBC SCHOOL REPORT
DCHS BBC SCHOOL REPORT - 06 March 2019
BBC SCHOOL REPORT gives young people in the UK the chance to make their own news reports for a real audience
Using lesson plans and materials from this website, and with support from BBC staff and partners, teachers help students develop their journalistic skills to become School Reporters.
In March, schools take part in an annual News Day, simultaneously creating video, audio and text-based news reports, and publishing them on a school website, to which the BBC aims to link.
It aims to educate and inform young people about the news and the world around them by giving them the opportunity to produce their own reports.
It allows students to inform a real audience about the subjects and stories that matter to them via BBC programmes and platforms.
Teachers tell us that taking part in School Report supports a range of learning - for example, by helping students to develop their ability to work in teams, manage their time, conduct research, communicate effectively and think critically.
Young people can also develop their media-literacy skills, and they get the opportunity to do hands-on media production, from writing a story for a website to recording and editing video.
It is also a chance for students to discuss the responsibilities involved in broadcasting their work to a wider audience.
School Report has an annual News Day in March where we showcase the work of School Reporters across the UK.
DCHS students have been working hard to produce interesting and topical news reports for the BBC Young Reporter News Day on Wednesday 6th March 2019!
The aim of the day was for students to get an insight into the world of journalism, being given the opportunity to research, write, interview and edit their own work. Why not take a look and see what our fantastic Year 8 team were able to produce:
DCHS students present their views on plastic pollution and why we need to address this issue as a school and in the wider world.
