Show Choirs

About the DCG High school show choirs

The Dallas Center-Grimes High School Vocal Music Department is proud to have two show choirs as part of its extra curricular offerings.

Momentum is the award-winning varsity show choir at DCG. Comprised of students in grades 9-12 who also participate in a wide variety of speech, athletic, drama, and volunteer activities, Momentum is proud of its rich history and looks forward to building on that strong foundation. In 2023, Momentum placed 4th at Des Moines Christian's Illumination, 3rd at Glenwood's Gala, 4th at North Polk's Comet Sensation and 6th at Southeast Polk's RAM Showcase. In 2024, Momentum placed 4th at Glenwood's Gala, and 2nd at Atlantic's Sing & Swing, along with being awarded Best Vocals and Best Choreography.

Impulse is the JV show choir and open to any treble voice singer by audition. In 2023, Impulse placed 2nd in the treble division at Des Moines Christian's Illumination, 3rd in the treble division at Waukee's Starstruck, 2nd in the treble division at North Polk's Comet Sensation and 4th in the treble division at Southeast Polk's RAM Showcase.

Impulse is on hiatus for the 2023-24 school year, but will be back with a new name in 2024-25!

24-25 HS show choir audition faq's

As we prepare for auditions, here's some answers to the most frequently asked questions.

When will the dance workshops begin?

The Tuesday dance workshop will begin at 3:30pm.
The Wednesday dance workshop will begin at 1:15pm.
Both will be held in the show choir room at the High School.

Do I need to attend both workshops?

No, you only need to attend one. However, if you'd like more rehearsal time with Grant, feel free to come to both!

If I can't attend a workshop, what do I do?

You will receive the link to the video and learn the dance on your own / with friends.

Will a video recording of the dance be made?

YES, a video recording will be made. A link to the video will be sent to your school email for you to use throughout the week.

When will Friday audition times be shared?

You will receive an email from Mrs. Davenport on Wednesday, May 8 confirming your audition time for Friday May 17. 15 minute time blocks will be created to best utilize student time. Spots are filled on a first come, first serve basis.

Do I need a vocal audition?

Yes! If you are an incoming 10th-12th grade student, your audition was part of your curricular choir audition, nothing more is needed.

If you are an incoming 9th grade student, please be prepared to sing "My Country Tis Of Thee". Preferably solo, but you can sing in small groups for Mrs. Davenport as needed.

I'm an incoming 9th grader - my parent can't get me to the HS in the middle of the day, so what do I do?

Never fear, Mrs. Davenport will work with Transportation to get a bus from Oak View to the High School on the workshop AND audition days! Watch your email or Student Square for more info from Mrs. Davenport about bus information.

Can I come early to auditions on Friday?

YES. You are guaranteed to audition at your time, but if someone is late or does not show, we will open that spot to any interested individual who is waiting their turn.

If you are late to your time, you will be worked in as soon as possible.

If I can't attend Friday auditions, what do I do?

Keep an eye on your email - we'll send you specific instructions!

When will the lists be posted?

The lists will be posted on Friday, May 24 after 4pm. You will receive an email when the lists are posted - they will be posted here on the Vocal Music Website - and social media announcements will also be made directing you to the website.

If you have further questions about show choir auditions or the process, please contact Mrs. Davenport. Thank you, and we look forward to seeing you!
