Financial Aid

Transfer Information

CAN I TRANSFER MY FINANCIAL AID TO OR FROM ANOTHER SCHOOL?

Financial aid cannot be transferred from one post-secondary institution to another. However, if you received federal financial aid from one institution, you should be able to receive federal financial aid from another (as long as you are meeting eligibility criteria, including Satisfactory Academic Progress standards). You will need to request your Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) information be sent to the school you will be attending. It can take up to four weeks for the new school to receive your FAFSA data. You can make this request this by doing the following:

• Submit your request online at fafsa.gov* (Step Three FAFSA Follow-up > Add or Delete a School Code), OR

• Contact the Federal Processor by phone at 1-800-433-3243

*Note: You must have a U.S. Department of Education Federal Student Aid ID (FSA ID) to make electronic transactions. If you do not have an FSA ID, you can request a new or duplicate FSA ID at fsaid.ed.gov.

IF I AM PLANNING TO TRANSFER TO ANOTHER SCHOOL, OR FROM ANOTHER SCHOOL, HOW DO I START THE PROCESS?

Contact DCCC Financial Aid and Scholarships office and the financial aid office at either your current school or the school to which you will be transferring to inquire about transfer policies.

WHAT IF I TRANSFER DURING THE ACADEMIC YEAR?

If you were awarded financial aid for the fall semester at a school you will no longer be attending, contact the financial aid office at that school and submit a written request to cancel your spring financial aid. If you have already enrolled for the spring semester at DCCC and plan to transfer to another school, you will need to officially withdraw to avoid charges.

WHAT ABOUT STATE AID?

If you were awarded a financial aid program funded by the State of Kansas, contact the Kansas Board of Regents for instructions at 785-430-4240 or online at kansasregents.org.

WHAT ABOUT SCHOLARSHIPS?

If you are receiving an outside scholarship, contact the scholarship donor to coordinate the transfer of funds, if the donor permits it. DCCC institutional scholarships are only available to DCCC students.

WHAT ABOUT MY LOANS?

If you are receiving a federal loan, you must cancel the loan with the school you are not attending, and reapply at the school you will be attending (add the school code to your FAFSA at fafsa.gov). Your new school will not be able to process your new loan until the previous one has been cancelled. This can take from a few days to several weeks.

Note: You do not need to wait until each task is finished to proceed to the next step. However, you must expect and allow several weeks for everything to be accomplished. Plan ahead!
