DCPS is re-opening the historic Thaddeus Stevens School building for School Year 2020-2021 as its first citywide, standalone Early Learning Center.

Classroom Overview

  • 5 DCPS general education PK3 and PK4 classrooms;
  • 3 DCPS self-contained special education classrooms to serve early childhood students with significant needs;
  • 4 infant and toddler classrooms serving 0–3 year-olds.
    • The selection process for the 0-3 operator will be led by DCPS in collaboration with OSSE and DME.

Admissions Process

DCPS is excited to pilot the District's first Priority Seat Preference for at-risk families to help build a socioeconomic- and ability-diverse school community.

  • All PK3 and PK4 applicants will need to apply through the My School DC lottery.
    • SY20-21 lottery opens December 16, 2019
    • PK3 and PK4 lottery deadline: March 2, 2020
    • Lottery results released: March 27, 2020
  • The Priority Seat Preference applies to at-risk families that identify as homeless, in the District’s foster care system, qualify for Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) or the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP). See MSDC key terms here for full definition.
  • The 0 - 3 operator will have its own separate admissions process. Please check back in early December for info on the 0-3 operator.
