Homework Guidelines
My goal is for students to complete the majority of their Literature and Grammar work during class, and time is typically provided for this. However, reading may be assigned as homework, and there may be times when an assignment needs to be finished at home—especially if a student was absent or did not use class time wisely.
Literature homework may include:
Reading and annotating assigned passages
Practicing poetry recitation (we will work on this regularly in class, but reinforcement at home is helpful)
Answering questions to prepare for a seminar
Working on creative projects related to our books
Clear instructions and due dates will be provided for all assignments completed at home.
Grammar homework is not regularly assigned. Most grammar work is expected to be completed during class; however, you may need to finish a sentence or two at home from time to time.
As always, please check PowerSchool regularly with your student to stay informed about grades, missing assignments, and progress.

Poetry
Below are a few of the poems we will be learning together in class this year. We will practice a poem together as a class daily until I see that most of the class knows it by heart, at which point I will schedule time for recitations at the front of the class. Do not stress; we will work on this together!
My goal is to make it through 1-2 poems per month, so these are not the only poems we will learn, but they offer a taste of what is to come.
