The Purpose of Homework:
Homework is a fundamental part of our general academic program and helps develop a strong work ethic and personal organizational skills. Homework’s immediate educational purpose includes the following: ● To reinforce and master facts and concepts taught in class; ● To prepare for the next day of class and for quizzes and tests; ● To develop study skills and habits; ● To work on assignments not readily accomplished in the classroom; ● To inform parents of what is being taught in the classroom.
Homework Expectations
Composition/IEW: I value your time as a family, as well as students' downtime, so I do not assign Composition essays for homework. However, if a student does not choose to use his or her class time wisely, or if a student was absent, completing the essay will need to be done at home. Students are given a generous 40 minutes most days in Composition class to work on writing assignments. Students may also use Studium time (20 minutes a day) and the time between drop-off and the start of school at 8AM to work on their essays. Note: A "paragraph" in 6th grade is 6-8 sentences.
History/Geography: Students are required to take notes in their binders during History class. These notes should remain in the binder and be used as review and study materials. Students who were absent are responsible for copying the missed day's notes from a classmate during Studium or before school starts, NOT during class time. All students should review and study as needed. The binder is an excellent resource for quizzing your student prior to assessments.
Checking PowerSchool with your student at least weekly is a great way to stay informed regarding grades, missing assignments, and progress.
