DBIS offers a rich and diverse array of extracurricular activities (ECAs) for students to explore their passions and interests. The three main areas are Inquiring Minds, Sports and Performing Arts. Inquiring Minds covers a wide range of academic clubs and competitions, allowing students to delve deeper into areas related to their subjects, like English, Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics. The Sports programme features individual and team activities, allowing students to participate and enjoy new activities in a low-pressure space. Finally, the Performing Arts offerings cater to students interested in Music, Drama and the Visual Arts, giving them chances to showcase their talents throughout the year. No matter a student's inclinations, DBIS has an extracurricular activity to pique their curiosity and fuel their creativity. Families are encouraged to review the detailed descriptions on this website to find the perfect fit for their child.
In most instances, DBIS staff will run and lead the ECA activities. We aim to maximise our school-wide facilities and utilise our teaching staff's expertise. It is important for staff to share their interests and passions with the students and to connect with them outside of the traditional classroom space to further their relationships. Each term, the programme reflects staff availability during their working week and according to commitments such as professional development days. On such days, we aim to continue offerings for our students but with fewer options due to the continuing professional development required for staff.
For intellectually curious students, the Inquiring Minds ECA cluster offers a range of academic enrichment opportunities designed for those interested in certain areas. The Inquiring Minds programme also features specialised interest groups like Robotics, where students can explore their passions for STEM fields and the Creativity of Arts Club, where budding visual artists can experiment with various media and techniques, with the potential to enter their works in art exhibitions and contests. Through these rigorous ECAs, DBIS cultivates a culture of academic excellence, innovation and global awareness.
The Performing Arts ECA programme at DBIS provides creative outlets for students to showcase their talents and artistic sensibilities, with a focus on competitive opportunities. This includes outlets like the Drama Society, where students hone their acting, directing and stage production skills to compete in drama festivals, and the Music Ensemble, which brings together instrumentalists and vocalists to perform concerts and compete in music competitions, These ECAs not only develop students' technical proficiency but also build their confidence, collaborative abilities and appreciation for the arts.
The Sports ECA programme at DBIS provides students with opportunities to participate in group sports and improve teamwork abilities. Anchored by traditional team sports like football, basketball and netball, the programme also features individual pursuits such as swimming, table tennis and cross-country running. All DBIS Sports ECAs are geared towards students developing interest and skills. Sport ECA's should be seen as an opportunity to seek an active, healthy lifestyle.
