René Descartes was a modern philosopher, scientist and mathematician. Although he was born in France, his place of work was the Netherlands. He laid the foundations of rationalism in Europe in the 17th century. His ideology and philosophy had a profound influence on Western thought. “Cogito ergo sum” which means “I think, therefore I am” was René Descartes’ famous quote. Hence he is considered as the father of modern philosophy. He died in Sweden in 1649 at the age of 53. But his quotes inspire us to think new things even today.
Kruger associates his work with the modern consumer-driven society. The catchphrase “I shop therefore I am” was borrowed from the French philosopher Rene Descartes “I think Therefore I am’. The phrase means that provided someone is simply thinking; they are livening a meaningful existence, was sufficient proof that they did exist.
