Dance is a course designed for students to experience, understand and value dance as an artform through the study of performance, composition and appreciation. Dance provides a way of knowing about oneself, other people and the world.
The study of dance as an artform acknowledges the interrelationship between the practical and theoretical aspects of dance, i.e. the making and performing of the movement, and the appreciation of its meaning.
Through the study of Dance as an artform, students learn to critically analyse, respond, enjoy and make perceptive judgments about Dance, and to gain knowledge and understanding.
Through their study in Dance students will learn about:
dance as an artform
dance performance
dance composition; and
dance appreciation
In Dance elective we encourage students to develop their own personal style, through creating and performing in light of ‘Dance as an artform’. In supporting students through this process students learn to engage in the fundamentals of;
