Introduction

Physical Education is considered an integral part of general education and leads to holistic development of personality through Cognitive, Affective and Effective learning. It is an art and science of promoting health by the deliberate effort of wilful adoption of physical activities and sports. Physical Education programme aim at making the maximum contribution to the optimum development of the individual’s potentialities in all phase of life by placing in an environment as favourable as possible.

Physical education imparts in-depth knowledge of fundamental and practical guidelines of health and fitness enabling the students to start their career in physical education and fitness industry, to catering the demand of the most growing industries across the world. In the newly revised syllabi, the introduction of physical education as a Generic Elective for the Honours courses has been a milestone leap. The course content comprises of Yoga & Stress Management, Obesity Management, Aerobics Training, and Fitness and Exercise Management. The faculty members enable and encourage the students to excel in academics as well as in their domain of sports. The Department organizes various workshops, seminars and fun activities in order to encourage participation and spread awareness amongst students.

In today’s high tech society, the success of Physical Education lies in the physical growth and development of students in fighting against the sedentary life style. It is through this approach, the students acquire the knowledge, skills, right attitude and values towards the pursuit of a physically active and healthy life style. It also provides an avenue for students to express themselves through movement and physical activity.
