The University of Delhi's Environment Studies (EVS) course, part of the National Education Policy (NEP) framework, covers topics like ecosystems, natural resources, biodiversity, pollution, and global environmental issues, and incorporates practical field work and data analysis to promote understanding of sustainability and environmental conservation. Course Structure & Content
The EVS course is structured into units, often including:
Introduction to Environmental Studies: Explores the multidisciplinary nature of the field, the components of the environment (atmosphere, hydrosphere, lithosphere, biosphere), and the concepts of sustainability and sustainable development.
Ecosystems: Focuses on the structure, functions (energy flow, nutrient cycling, food webs), and types of ecosystems (forests, grasslands, deserts, aquatic), along with their importance and threats.
Natural Resources: Details land resources, minerals, soil, and forests, discussing land use change and the overexploitation of resources like water and energy.
Biodiversity and Conservation: Covers the importance of biodiversity, threats to it, and conservation strategies.
Environmental Pollution: Examines causes and effects of air, water, and solid waste pollution, as well as nuclear hazards.
Global Environmental Issues and Policies: Addresses climate change, global environmental policies, and relevant environmental laws and acts.
Human Communities and the Environment: Explores population growth and environmental degradation, natural disasters, environmental ethics, and the relationship between Indian culture and environmental practices.

Marks Distribution: total 80 (40 LECTURE + 40PRACTICAL)

MARKS DISTRIBUTION UNDER IA: 10 DIVIDED AS FOLLOWS:
4 marks- CLASS TEST
4 marks- ASSIGNMENT/PRESENTATION
2 marks- ATTENDANCE
10= (4+4+2)
2 (Two) marks for attendance of lectures shall be distributed as follows:
(a) More than 67% attendance but less than 70% attendance - 0.4 mark
(b) More than 70% attendance but less than 75% attendance - 0.8 marks
(c) More than 75% attendance but less than 80% attendance - 1.2 marks
(d) More than 80% attendance but less than 85% attendance - 1.6 marks
(e) More than 85% attendance -2.0 marks
Ability Enhancement Compulsory Course (AECC) - Environmental Studies (in English) (with effect from Academic Session 2019-20)
Consist of Internal Assessment which carry 25% weightage (25 marks) and the End Semester Examination carry 75% weightage (75 marks)
In each semester, there will be 40 to 50 classes. it will be taught only either in Ist or IInd semester.

Note: Answers may be written either in English and Hindi; but the same medium should be followed throughout the paper.
There will be a total of eight (8) questions in the given paper. Students have to attempt any five questions out of eight questions. All the questions carry equal marks (15 each).

Present your answer neatly and in a readable form.

Internal Assessment shall carry 25% weightage (25 marks) and End Semester Examination 75% weightage (75 marks)
The distribution of Internal Assessment marks shall be as follows:

Attendance (Lectures including Interactive Periods) 5%
Written Assignments/ Project report/ Seminars 10%
Class Test / Quiz(s) 10%
There shall be 5% weightage for regularity in attending lectures (including interactive periods) and credit for regularity in each paper, based on attendance, shall be as foll0ws:
More than 67% but less than 70% - 1 mark
70% or more but less than 75% - 2 marks
75% or more but less than 80% - 3 marks
80% or more but less than 85% - 4 marks
85% and above - 5 marks
Attend classes regularly and ensure timely submission of all EVS assignments, practicals, activities, and presentations as per schedule.
