I was inspired to do this picture because I thought it would be cute to have a reminder of my friend on my backpack.
On the first day of class, I began the keychain project by choosing this photo for my keychain. I chose it because it's a good photo of me and Kanoe. I then expanded to photo to make me and Kanoe 2.5 inches tall on the page.
On the second day of class, I outlined Kanoe and I using the curvature tool and then moved that outline onto another layer. Then, still using the curvature tool, I traced out different parts of us like our eyes, mouths, and dresses and moved those onto the same layer as the outline.
On day 3, I continued tracing and filling my image using the curvature tool. I added a small circle in the upper right corner of my keychain using the ellipses tool. The circle will be cut out as a hole to put my image on a keychain. I also changed the thickness of my lines, the ones meant to be cut out to 0.001 and the ones to be engraved were 0.5. Then, I changed all the srokes and fills to black.
On day 4, I worked on my sticker by copy and pasting my keychain's silhouette into a new document and using a clipping mask on it. Then I mirrored it and and changed the stroke Ito the cut color from Versaworks. I chose pickles for my picture because the keychain features Kanoe and I and we both love pickles. Then, I laser-cutted out my keychain, which was a fail at first. Some of my lines weren't bigger than 0.001, so the laser-cutter printer cut out pieces I wanted engraved. So, I had to edit the stroke thickness.
REFLECTION
Something that went well during the project was that tracing details of my keychain was very easy with the curvature tool and honestly kind of relaxing. One challenge was laser printing my keychain. I messed up on the line thickness, which ended up becoming a keychain puzzle with separate pieces. If I were to do this project again, I wouldn't have chosen people for my keychain because my keychain looks kind of creepy.
