My first step in this project was to design my project. I wanted to a sign similar to my last project, and I was inspired by Declan's use of epoxy in his project and Madison's heart in her project last year. I decided to do a wooden heart with glitter epoxy in a smaller heart inside. I chose an image of a heart shape off Google and traced it using the pen and curvature tools in Illustrator.
My next step was to export my illustrator design as DXF file and bring it into V-Carve. I made my project 15x15 and traced a toolpath that was .25 inch deep using a 1/2 inch toolbit.
I didn't have time in the semester to finish this project, but my next steps would be cut out and plane my piece of wood. We don't have a piece of wood that is 15x15, so I would cut two planks and glue them side by side. Then I would carve my design on the laser cutter, make glitter epoxy, and pour the epoxy in my design.
This semester I have become very proficient at using illustrator, so the design part of this project went well.
The only issue I truly had was getting the sizing of my project right. It took me a while to get the proportions right.
