Like our last project i had a hard time figuring out what i was going to do. But i ended up making something for my grandma.
Here is what it looks like in Fusion; with a pocket for the letters and the extra 1/8 inch pocket for the square like shape.
After being cut in the CNC it was time to sand it and spray paint it.
In adobe illustrator i made the piece that goes into the extra pocket. Here i used the camera in the laser machine to move the piece into an empty spot in the wood.
I used 1/8 inch wood and cut it in the fusion pro epilog laser. Which in the beginning i was originally going to use the CNC, but i realized that for this piece the laser cutter would do the same thing just faster and easier ( for me).
Here i did all of the same thing that i did with the wood, but with the acrylic that i used was clear so i spray painted it blue.
Here are all of the pieces outside of the laser cutter. I realized that i for got to take of the protective layer of paper before laser cutting, so i had a tedious time taking off of every individual letter.
On the Helix epilog laser i cut out a template so then when i put my letters on my piece they are perfectly placed.
Here i have some leaves that i cut in the fusion pro and engraved.
Im spray painting the back because i used a clear acrylic.
Now i only have some small tasks to do like painting the outer edge and glueing all of the letters on/ leaves!
Here is my final piece!
What was the best question you were asked during the showcase?
How did you come up with that idea?
What was the hardest thing to explain during the showcase and how could you have done it better?
Probably the work that i did on the CNC machine, and describing what the cnc was. Probably could have shown them a time-lapse video that i have.
What went well during this project?
sanding
What challenges did you encounter?
Engraving the leaves
If you were to do this project again, what would you change?
probably the colors because there are only two colors.
