The inspiration for this project comes from a photo I took after hiking lake chutes in Breckenridge ski resort
Sketch
I decided to frame the photo using a 5 piece design which would be cut out on the laser cutter. the Top piece was engraved to add interest to the front.
I cut out several test pieces to determine what the best tolerances where for slotting pieces together. I figured out that the best way is to not put in tolerances because the wood is burned just enough by the laser to fit together
Cutting and engraving
I designed my cut files in illustrator. I used the pen tool and shape tool to create outlines. I then used the unite and minus front features of the pathfinder tool to combine paths into the final shapes I wanted. I then used the epilog fusion pro to cut and engrave my pieces.
I used a clipping mask to crop and place my image perfectly. Then I offset the border a little to create a perforated cut around my sticker. I sent this file to the Roland True-VIS to be printed and cut
Assembly
I assembled the base using super glue and accelerator. I then stuck the sticker onto the front face and superglued the faceplate on to finish it off
