Stage 1: ThE eXpErImEnTaTiOn PhAsE
To be perfectly honest during the first part of this project I didn't know what I was doing. However, one day as I was getting ready to go to school I saw that design on my my desk and I had a revelation. The general bits and pieces of my project fell into place, I would use acrylic to cut out and engrave the design itself and then I would house it in wooden plaque. The actual Adobe part of this design went along without a hitch because at this point if you can't draw stuff in Illustrator are you even doing Digital Fabrication?
Stage 2: Fusion Phase
This part of the project also along without a fuss. THe only thing worth mentioning was that because the stock was cut manually instead of on the CNC it threw the circle ever so slightly off center. (More on that later)
Stage 3: tHe ExPeRiMeNtAtIoN pHaSe -Part 2-
At this point I was slightly lost. I had already printed out the design and it fit within the stock but there was nothing else. It was just a piece of wood with a design, albeit a cool one. Designs on wood has been my favorite part on this class because natural talent with illustrator I guess. So, I decided to do what I did and snazz up the piece of wood. Through countless attempts at getting ideas in this class I had developed a technique: The TSUBAME GAESHI!!! To run through my files within a single minute maximizing idea coverage and minimizing time waste. Through this method I found four suitable images that would drip out the stock and thus I drew them out on illustrator and engraved them on.
Final Thoughts:
Ultimately, Digital Fabrication has been one of my favorite classes this year because the freedom to make almost anything I want has been amazing when the let's call it structure of my other class have been ... spiritually taxing. But if I could do this project again and I had unlimited time and resources I would want to make a trophy made by stacking different pieces that will have been CNC'd out and stacking them on top of each other. Maybe, i'll do that next semester when I have a study hall but as of right now i'm just a kid with a dream.
