Students extended their research skills by participating in GENIUS HOUR. The students picked topics to investigate. First and second grade students learned about an animal. Third grade students learned about a country or a state in the United States. Fourth grade students picked from a person, place, or thing/idea.
Students learned about appropriate searching tips online, note-taking and paraphrasing, project design, and speaking/listening skills. We culminated the unit with a Gallery Walk where parents, families, and school classes got to come through and listen to/view the student projects. It was a great experience encouraging creativity, perseverance, curiosity, and ownership in learning.
