"A democracy cannot thrive where power remains unchecked and justice is reserved for a select few. Ignoring these cries and failing to respond to this movement is simply not an option — for peace cannot exist where justice is not served." -John Lewis
I began my career in education in 1996 teaching third grade. Teaching had been the most rewarding pathway for making a difference in what I accomplish each day. Advocating for student achievement has a special meaning and is the driving force behind the goals and metrics I place for myself to keep me focused and consistent. I believe in the power of relationships and how they create safe working spaces for everyone to grow. I take pride in my ability to connect with students, staff and parents in an effective manner and the ability to foster and grow those relationships over time. In order to compel our students into the future prepared for college and an emerging workforce, I am committed to delivering the right information and strategies necessary for the success of our student body. Distance Learning has helped me to understand the need for multiple methods of instruction. I am taking this course to become an educator who has multiple tools for instruction and can serve the students at their level using their interests. We enjoy sharing our education pathways with our students to show them where their teachers and staff went to school and is often the starting point to many discussions. These discussions add to the relationship building aspect of education and allow us to know each other better.

I have always had an interest in technology and using it to advance both my teaching and to expand student learning. After learning so many useful strategies in the LEC 63 class, I am more prepared to discuss classroom structure and process, observe and coach teachers and teach a blended learning class myself if the need arises. I prefer the rotation model and would enjoy the process of organizing, planning and executing a classroom lesson. The lessons in LEC 63 offered a concrete process in which to accomplish this goal.
