Counselor's Corner

Students have been learning about Habit 5:  Seek First to Understand, Then Be Understood in school counselor lessons and Leader In Me lessons during Family Time.  We have learned that listening to understand others is much more than just hearing words that are spoken.  It involves listening with your eyes, ears, body, and heart.  We have talked about how listening with your heart is called empathic listening or listening with empathy.  This is when we try to really understand how another person is feeling by “putting ourselves in their shoes.”  This is a very important relational life skill.  Hopefully you can take time to encourage this type of listening at home.
