Reading- Students are learning about the impacts of natural disasters, understanding the meaning, tone, and beauty of text and visuals, and will be continuing to write summaries. Please make sure that your student is reading the assigned portions by Friday each week because they will have a quiz.. They are allowed to take notes as they read and use them on their book club quiz. Mrs. Lewis' class is reading Night of the Twisters and Mrs. Hamblen's is reading Wildfire.
Math- We are fin Module 5 of Eureka Math. This module is about geometry, which includes shapes, lines, volume, etc. Students are also learning about the coordinate plane in their math stations!
In order for 5th grade students to find success in mathematics this year, it is important that they are fluent with multiplication facts. Students should know facts up to 12x12. Studying can take the form of flashcards, timed worksheets, math apps, games, or any strategy you have found works for your child. PTO has purchased Reflex Math for all students which can be practiced at home and at school.
Social Studies- We are learning about the beginnings of American government including the Articles of Confederation, the Constitution, and the Bill of Rights. Students will also be learning more about economics, including consumers and producers, supply and demand, types of resources, etc.
Reminder that any low grades in IC can be redone. Please let me know if your child needs a new copy of a paper.
