Reading- Students are learning about biodiversity in the rainforest. They are reading The Most Beautiful Roof in the World, which tells about Meg Lowman, a rainforest scientist. They will be studying non-fiction text structures, points of view, and will be continuing to write summaries. Please make sure that your student is reading the assigned portions by Friday each week because they will have a quiz.. They are allowed to take notes as they read and use them on their book club quiz.
Math- We are fin Module 4 of Eureka Math. This module is about decimals, which includes naming them, ordering decimals, comparing decimals, rounding decimals, adding and subtracting decimals, and eventually, multiplying and dividing them. Students are focusing on place value knowledge and conceptual understanding for this learning.
In order for 5th grade students to find success in mathematics this year, it is important that they are fluent with multiplication facts. Students should know facts up to 12x12. Studying can take the form of flashcards, timed worksheets, math apps, games, or any strategy you have found works for your child. PTO has purchased Reflex Math for all students which can be practiced at home and at school.
Social Studies- We are working on our module "What unites us?" which focuses on the pre-American Revolutionary time period. Students have learned about the French and Indian War, various taxes and acts imposed by the British, and will also learn about the Boston Massacre, the Boston Tea Party, the Olive Branch Petition, and other events that led to the declaration of war. The focus of all of this learning is the ideals that unite us as Americans and the common enemy of King George III.
Reminder that any low grades in IC can be redone. Please let me know if your child needs a new copy of a paper.
Please continue to sell meat sticks! We are still trying to work our way to Frankfort!
The trip, assuming that we will raise the funds, is set for Tuesday, April 14th. Please don't schedule anything on that day.
Nightly homework: Study multiplication facts and read!
REMINDER! Check your student's grades on Infinite Campus (you can even have notifications sent to your device when any grade gets put in!) Students may redo ANY assignment, but it has to be student initiated. Grades will be averaged with the original score.
Students will be going outside for recess any day that the temperature is over 32 degrees and below 100 degrees and it isn't raining. Please dress accordingly.
