On May 5, 2022, the North Carolina State Board of Education granted permission for NCDPI to move forward with the review and revision of the K-12 Healthful Living and K-12 Science standards. NCDPI will facilitate the process as outlined in the Procedures Manual. The process follows three phases: Review, Revision, and Implementation. Each phase is guided by four key principles: Feedback-based, Research-Informed, Improvement-Oriented, and Process-Driven.
Regular and frequent communication will be shared with details of each step, updates on work completed, requests for input, as well as seeking educator and stakeholder participation. The visual below provides a quick overview of the three phases. The full SBE-approved Procedures Manual can be found on the Academic Standards page of the NCDPI website.

Effective instruction is built on the NC Essential Standards. In part 3 of our Standards Webinar series, our focus will be Health Education. In this webinar, we’ll take a deep dive into the five Health strands while connecting knowledge with skill. Clarifying objectives will be examined so that both instruction and assessment will match the objective’s intent.
