Josh King joined Davidson in August 2019 and serves as the Assistant Athletic Director/AD Engagement & Athlete Career Development. In July 2025, his role was elevated to serve on the Davidson Athletics Senior Leadership team, including serving as the sport administrator for men's golf and a co-leader of the department's SAAC group. Additionally, King will further develop efforts to provide more leadership development to Davidson scholar-athletes and coaches.
Upon his arrival, King was tasked with creating and developing Career Advantage, which serves all Davidson scholar-athletes in preparing for life after Davidson. In January 2024, he was tabbed as the Interim Director for the Matthews Center for Career Development, where he oversees all operations for the center. In this role, he provides career & leadership development workshops, one-on-one advising, and assists in developing alumni connections for scholar-athletes. He also travels with select teams during competition to provide career development programming and alumni networking through Road Treks. In addition to serving all Davidson scholar-athletes, King is responsible for driving student and employer engagement strategies for the Matthews Center as a whole.
King is a member of the 2022 NCAA Effective Facilitator Cohort and is a certified DISC Facilitator, certified Clifton Strengths Facilitator, and a certified Strong Interest Inventory Facilitator. Nationally, King has facilitated for the NCAA's Career in Sports Forum and Student-Athlete Leadership Forum programs, in addition to serving on NCAA SADV subcommittees. He is also a member of the 2022 NACE Management Leadership Institute Cohort.
Prior to Davidson, King served as the Director of Football Academics and Student-Athlete Development Coordinator at Old Dominion University for two years where he oversaw student-athlete leadership and career development programming for all ODU student-athletes and served as the SAAC advisor. Before joining ODU, King spent two years as the Compliance Coordinator at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi, where he oversaw day-to-day compliance activities for the department as well as oversight of student-athlete life skills and SAAC.
A proud graduate of the University of South Carolina, King earned both his Bachelors & Masters in Sport & Entertainment Management. While with the Gamecocks, King spent four years working with the men’s basketball team, and served as the head manager for two years before moving on as a Graduate Assistant in the Office of Compliance Services for the Athletic Department.
King and his wife, Natalie, reside in Charlotte with their beloved dogs and cat.
