Concert Band

Description

The Concert Band group is made up of 9th-12th graders directed by Mrs. Courtney Long. Performances include four concerts a year as well as participating in the IHSMA Large Group Contest at Bettendorf High School. Students that are interested may also participate in the IHSMA solo and ensemble contest held in April at West High School.

About the Director

Mrs. Courtney Long is in her 4th year as the Assistant Band Director at Davenport West High and her 10th year as the Drumline Instructor. She earned her Bachelor of Music degree in Percussion Performance and Education as well as a Teacher Leader Certificate from the University of Iowa. During her time at Iowa, Mrs. Long was an active member of the Hawkeye Marching Band (earning section leader and rank of honor positions), Iowa Symphony Band, Iowa Percussion Ensembles, New Horizons Band, and the Pan-American Steel Band. As a steel cellist, in 2012 Miss Long recorded a CD with the Pan-American Steel Band. Mrs. Long was also a member of the University of Iowa East-West Percussion Ensemble that won the Percussive Arts Society World Percussion Competition. Additionally, she performed as a featured artist at the 2013 PAS International Convention. Mrs. Long has also served as a guest instructor for the University of Iowa Hawkeye Drumline.

This past summer (July 23, 2021) Mrs. Long and her wife welcomed their daughter, Parker, into the world and they have enjoyed spending every spare moment with her. Mrs. Long is an alumna of West High School and is extremely happy to be continuing her career as a Falcon.
