Without question, the school library has greatly changed over the past few years. Due to advances in technology and digital resources, the way students today read and do research is vastly different from past experiences. These changes can feel overwhelming for parents and guardians. At Central High School, I am committed to finding the best, research based ways to help our student advance in their academic careers by combining technology and physical book collections.
Through equal access, patron privacy, interlibrary loans, and a clear circulation policy, Central's library is committed to making sure our patrons have the materials they need for success in the classroom as well as reading for pleasure. Click here to view our circulation policy.
If your student is not sure what to read next, please have him/her come in and visit me in the library. Click here for library hours. I am a passionate reader, and after a few guiding questions I can make suggestions for your student's next great read.
If a student wants to explore reading on their own, we also provide access to our catalog of books by clicking here.
Lastly, students can see the new items we have added to our collection or see what books are being regularly checked out in our library by clicking here.
We have several databases provided by the Area Education Association for our students to use, providing them with access thousands of articles, ebooks, and videos for their project needs. These databases can be found here. If you would like to access these websites, please contact me at mussmanna@davenportschools.org for a username and password.
Access to thousands of resources can be overwhelming, even for experienced researchers. I offer individual assistance and classroom teaching to help students navigate the databases through advanced searches. If you find yourself in need of assistance while helping your student, please contact me at the email above.
In teaching our students how to ethically use information from other sources, I also provide lessons in MLA and APA citations and Works Cites/Reference pages. These lessons are also available individually and in the classroom setting.
