Central High School has created clear circulation policies for library patrons in order to ensure free and fair access for all library users.
Central High School Library has established the following loan periods for materials:
Nonfiction Books: 3 weeks
Fiction Books & Graphic Novels: 2 weeks
Reserve Items: Classroom teacher discretion
Renewal of items: Items may be renewed by bringing the item to the library during our operating hours.
If an item is not available through Central's online catalog, library patrons may request materials from District High Schools or our partner, The Davenport Community Library, by filling out the Interlibrary Loan Form or by visiting a staff member in the library.
It is important that library items be returned or renewed on time to ensure that resources are available for all of our patrons.
Notices of overdue materials will be sent to students' District Gmail accounts. Please check your email regularly for these important notices.
No fines are assessed for overdue materials that are less than 15 days overdue. After 15 days, the item is automatically marked as lost and the student will be charged the replacement cost for the item. This fine will be deleted upon the return of the item.
Lost Materials
When an item is 15 days overdue, the item is automatically marked as lost and the patron is issued a fine for the replacement cost. This fine will be deleted if the item is returned, otherwise, this fine must be paid in the Activities Office.
Damaged Materials
If a student damages a library item beyond usability, he/she will be billed for the cost of replacement of the item.
Billing Charges
The billing charges for materials will be based on replacement costs associated with the lost/damaged items.
All fines must be paid through the building's or the district's billing offices. The Central High Library will not accept any form of payment for student fines.
All library patrons, regardless of age, have the right to confidentiality. Section 22.7(13), Code of Iowa, states:
The records of a library which, by themselves or when examined with other public records, would reveal the identity of the library patron checking out or requesting an item or information from the library. The records shall be released to a criminal or juvenile justice agency only pursuant to an investigation of a particular person or organization suspected of committing a known crime. The records shall be released only upon a judicial determination that a rational connection exists between the requested release of information and a legitimate end and that the need for the information is cogent and compelling.
The rights of confidentiality include digital and physical information searches, circulation records, interlibrary loan requests, or use of the library spaces, materials, equipment or services.
