Medical

Dear Fifth Grade Parent and Guardians,

In preparation for the upcoming Deer Valley field trip, we would like to remind you of the medication administration policy for the district that will hold true at Deer Valley.

  • The district medication policy strictly prohibits students from carrying any medication on them. The exception to this is approved inhalers and EPI-PEN’s accompanied by a doctor’s order and cleared with the school nurse prior to the trip.
  • Any medicine not listed on standing orders or accompanied by written instructions from a physician will not be given.
  • It is the parent’s responsibility to provide the written physician’s instructions to the school nurse.
  • Medications necessary at Deer Valley must be brought to the school/camp nurse the week prior to the field trip by a parent/guardian in the original prescription container and accompanied by a doctor’s order.
  • Medication included in the Derry Area School District Standing Orders will be provided by the district and administered as per your child’s emergency card. (Tylenol, Advil, Mylanta, Dimetapp, Benadryl, Robitussin, Chloraseptic, and Kaopectate)
  • If your child is to receive any medication at camp, please indicate the medication, dosage, and time of administration on your child’s camp health history form. This information is essential in planning and scheduling for the camp nurses.
  • Please contact the school nurse with any questions or special needs. (724) 694-1401 x2304

Thank you for your cooperation. It is our goal for the students to have a safe and successful field trip!

Sincerely,

Wendy Angus, RN,CSN
