Morrisby

What is Morrisby and why do we use it?

Morrisby is a Psychometric Assessment designed to to help our students to feel well informed and confident about the choices ahead.

The advantages are:

  • Self discovery helps students understand themselves and the sort of options that will suit them.

  • When a student doesn't know which subjects to pick, Morrisby's subject suggestions will give ideas.

  • Ensures subject choices keep doors open.

  • When there is a concern that a student's desired career or study choices might not suit them, Morrisby's impartiality and objectivity helps with the decision making.

  • Boosting motivation by providing career goals and what is required to achieve them.

  • Track interests, development and plans via class activities eg CV builder, letter of application, SWOT analysis, logging co-curricular

  • House students' careers consultations and discussions with Sixth Form Tutor

  • A log in for life means that students have on going careers guidance once they leave Dame Allan's Schools

When does the assessment take place and how do we use it?

Year 9

Students join Morrisby . They answered questions about their Aspirations. A diverse range of careers well matched to students' strengths and interests are suggested. They can add a log of their extra curricular activities and their goals in Morrisby Tracker to create their Learner Passport.

Year 10

The Morrisby Psychometric Assessments take place and this reveals a student's aptitude - verbal, numerical, abstract, spatial and mechanical. The Guidance Report helps students to explore career paths further and forms the foundations of lessons and individual Year 11 careers guidance consultations.

Year 11/12

Students add details about their Work Experience placements and update their interests questionnaires and priorities in order to review their post 18 options. Sixth Form Tutors update the Morrisby Guidance interview notes.

Year 13 and after Dame Allan's

The subject and careers research tools are used throughout Sixth Form and beyond as students have a log in for life. This offers independent careers guidance even once students leave us; ideal when in HE and for career changers.

New students

We always welcome new students to Dame Allan's and if they join us Sixth Form they catch up quickly with the support by completing the Morrisby Assessment in the first few weeks, followed by a Careers Consultation with Mrs Whitehouse.

Students can link parents to their profile so you are able to see their profile and discuss progress and choices ahead.

TOP TIPS

  • Have a good breakfast/lunch to create lots of brain cells!

  • Have a drink of water at hand, and a snack for half way through

PURPOSE of Morrisby Online is to help you make decisions about your future.

You will need to go to : www.morrisby.com in the Morrisby Assessment Workshop

Click 'Sign Up' and enter your registration code (Year 10 will be emailed this code)

Complete the rest of the sign-up process - use school email address.....dameallans.co.uk, and follow the on-screen instructions

Read through these instructions out loud together- parent and son/daughter

Firstly, you need to complete the assessment session, which will take up to two hours.

  • During the assessments it is important that you try and work as hard as possible, so please turn your phone off, put it in another room and ensure that you are in a quiet environment, free from interruptions or distractions.

  • You may want help and people might want to help you with your answers, but that really won't be helpful in the long term as we are trying to help find a career direction and route that suits you personally.

  • Please do not attempt the assessments on your phone, the screen is too small and you will not be able to perform at your best. Use your Chromebook. You don not need a calculator.

  • Some of the assessments are timed, however before each assessment begins, you will be able to take whatever time you need to read instructions and try some practice questions.

  • The instructions will tell you how long you have for each assessment. You are not expected to finish all the questions in an assessment during the time allowed.

  • Do not rush through and guess. If you do have any spare time, go back and check.

  • If there is a problem, such as a loss of internet, or you need to pause the session, then close the browser, and when you are ready to restart, you will be able to login and start without losing any of your previous work.

  • The sections are all timed- the shortest are 5 minutes, the longest are 12 minutes. The same times apply to SEND students but any extra needs are taken into account when you enter these extra needs when you first register.

  • Rough guide to times-

5-10 mins sign up

65 mins verbal, numerical and abstract questions

5-10 mins break

45 mins personality, spatial, mechanical, aspirations

RESULTS-

  • Once you have completed the assessments you will be emailed later in the week to tell you when the results have been released. You will be presented with your results in a Morrisby Profile and be given career suggestions to explore as well as appropriate study routes.

  • The site is highly interactive so you can explore many 'what-if' scenarios, re-complete questionnaires and plan your future.

  • You will first of all reflect upon your results in LOCKER/INTERVIEW/ Background and Reflection

  • This will be your own personal guidance tool going forward and you have log in for life. As you update questionnaires, your Morrisby profile grows with you, even once you have left Dame Allan's.

  • Mrs Whitehouse will set Activities in lessons linked to Morrisby and will analyse your results with each of you.
