The goals of the Language Arts units from the Center of Gifted Education at the College of William & Mary are to develop students' skills in literary analysis and interpretation, persuasive writing, linguistic competency, and oral communication as well as to strengthen students' reasoning skills and understanding of the concept of change. The units engage students in exploring carefully selected, challenging works of literature from various times, cultures, and genres; and they encourage students to reflect on their readings through writing and discussion. The units also provide numerous opportunities for students to explore interdisciplinary connections to the language arts and to conduct research around issues relevant to their own lives. A guide to using the curriculum is also available.
Project M3: Mentoring Mathematical Minds is a series of curriculum units developed to motivate and challenge mathematically talented students at the elementary level. Project M3 has long been recognized as one of the nation’s top programs in gifted mathematics education, and is now available in Flourish. Project M3 delivers even more ways for teachers to motivate and challenge advanced students in grades 3-6. Supporting the Common Core Standards and based on NAGC exemplary practices, Project M3 facilitates learning with a digital eBook for teachers that provides organization and suggested pacing for each unit, includes rubrics, and differentiates instruction. The Project M3 curriculum features explorations of simulated or real-life problems so students can actively solve them in the same ways that practicing mathematicians do.
Through a partnership with the SC Governor's School for Science & Mathematics (SCGSSM), our ALERT GT students are able to participate in STEM Days at GSSM!
A STEM Day at GSSM offers hands-on STEM learning experiences for third through tenth grade students on GSSM’s campus. During their visit, students in grades 3 through 10 will explore and participate in two classes filled with inquiry-driven activities and projects related to STEAM topics, including engineering, chemistry, physics, and more. GSSM will provide lunch for all students in the GSSM Dining Hall. Current GSSM Student Ambassadors will lead visiting school groups in a tour of the campus.
