Campus Updates
Hallways
Hallway patterns will promote social distancing:
One-way hallways.
The first floor will go clockwise - from the Welcome Center in, you'll go straight down the A wing hallway.
Each floor rotates directions.
One-way staircases
green = up
red = down
Staggered exits from classrooms to control flow into hallways
Longer passing periods to allow additional travel time for increased distance
Doors
Enter through the door closest to your classroom, taking into consideration the one-way hallways (above). Proceed straight to your classroom at the beginning of the day.
KEY:
Circles = accessible throughout the day with student ID
Red Circles = designated entrance/exit for students with Open Ends/Open Campus permission (must swipe in and out) -- see below for more information
Blue Squares = accessible during arrival and dismissal times only
Arrival and Dismissal
Arrival
Drop off and enter through the door closest to your classroom (accounting for one-way hallways)
Go straight to classrooms upon arrival
Dismissal
Students are encouraged to exit through door nearest their classroom
Staggered exits from classrooms will minimize hallway traffic
Maintain social distancing in hallways and in outside spaces, as feasible
Bathrooms, Water Fountains, Handwashing
Bathrooms:
3 students maximum at any time
Alternating stalls, urinals, and sinks
Marked spaces in hallway outside of bathroom will indicate socially distanced line
Water Fountains:
Water fountains will only be available to fill bottles (no spouts)
Bring a water bottle to school for refilling!
Handwashing:
Students will have access to sinks in bathrooms and some classrooms
Portable handwashing stations will be available throughout the building
Touchless handsanitizing stations will be available throughout the building
Free Periods
Students with free periods may go to the Cafeteria, Library Learning Commons, an outdoor space, or make an appointment to meet with a teacher.
Open Ends & Open Campus
In order to increase social distancing for the 2020-2021 academic school year, DHS is expanding its Open Ends policy and adding an Open Campus policy for seniors.
Open Ends
Available to all students grades 9-12
Parents/guardians sign off permission in Aspen by August 28. See directions here for help and email Sandy Timmons with Aspen sign off questions.
Students receive laminated pass on September 3 or 4
Beginning September 8, students who have Open Ends permission may arrive late to school if they have the first time slot free.
Beginning September 8, students who have Open Ends permission may leave school early if they have the last time slot free. They must exit through the Library Door (A Wing), Athletic Loop, or Cafeteria, where there will be a faculty member monitoring the door. Each student will show the faculty member their laminated pass and swipe out using their ID badge.
It is the parent's/guardian's responsibility to provide transportation; seniors who park on campus may drive themselves
Open Campus
Available to seniors
Parents/guardians and seniors must sign permission/informed consent and turn into the Main Office by September 1 (immediately after you take your Senior Portrait)
Students receive laminated pass on September 3 or 4
Beginning September 8, students who have Open Campus privileges may leave campus for lunch if they have the entire lunch period (third time slot) free. Seniors must show their laminated pass and sign out and return to the building using their ID badge through the Library Door (A Wing), Athletic Loop, or Cafeteria.
It is the parent's/guardian's responsibility to provide transportation; seniors who park on campus may drive themselves.
All students are expected to attend all classes on time. Students who are tardy should go to the attendance desk for a pass to class. See Student Handbook for more information!
The administration reserves the right to revoke both Open Ends and Open Campus privileges individually or en masse at any time. Parents may revoke permission at any time by emailing their student's assistant principal. Failure to sign out of the building at the designated exits may result in loss of privileges.
Outdoor Spaces & Mask Breaks
Students will have access to outdoor seating areas during free periods and passing periods, where they can also take mask breaks. Students should maintain social distancing practices (a distance of six feet) outdoors.
Tech Updates and Help
iPad Set Up
We've put together a step-by-step guide for iPad set up with screenshots here. Based on the conversations we have had so far, it sounds like most individuals were able to set up the iPad once they tried logging in with their Aspen ID (not with the full @darienps.org student email address). If you try this and still need help, pop by the Library during a free period.
Student Emails
We have heard that a few students are not seeing their emails when they login to Outlook. If this is the case, first check the Spam folder. Second, please try logging in through https://login.microsoftonline.com/ OR portal.office365.com. If neither of those steps work, please submit a Help Desk Ticket here.
Zoom Set Up Issues
First, students should check their Darien email for the Zoom activation email that would have been sent to them when they first logged in. If that fails, submit a ticket. The library staff can assist students in many tech areas but not in Zoom.
Remember, if you need support (and to submit a ticket): http://support.darienps.net/
