Pat Ackerman Reading Program

Our Purpose

The purpose of this reading program is to pair high school students with elementary students in order to improve reading comprehension skills and foster a lifelong love of reading. Through the guidance and mentorship of the high school students, the elementary students will gain the necessary skills and confidence to read effectively and independently. The program aims to create a positive and supportive learning environment that promotes a passion for reading, while also encouraging mentorship and leadership skills in the high school students. Ultimately, the goal of the program is to create a community of lifelong learners who value the importance of reading and continue to engage in it throughout their lives.

Building a community

In our reading program, we have implemented a number of strategies to support the growth and development of both high school and elementary students. Our program focuses on encouraging students to read books on their level and providing them with the necessary support to improve their reading comprehension skills. This approach fosters a sense of achievement and builds confidence in the students as they progress through the program. We also provide support with homework assignments, helping students to understand the material and complete their work to the best of their ability.

In addition, our program emphasizes the importance of building a strong bond between high school and elementary students. By fostering a sense of community and creating opportunities for mentorship and leadership, we promote positive relationships and encourage students to support and learn from one another. Through these efforts, we aim to create a culture of learning and growth that extends beyond the classroom and into the students' lives outside of school.
