The Technology Faculty
Technology at Chancellor’s is successful, progressive and inclusive. With a core of strong teaching across the range of disciplines, lessons are exciting, engaging and stimulating for all students.
Teaching and Learning is of an excellent standard and our examination results at Key Stages 4 and 5 demonstrate consistently outstanding progress. Our faculty is considered a beacon of excellence and has been recognised by the Challenge Partners network of schools. We are involved in a range of technology competitions and our students have enjoyed national success in Design Ventura and Future Chef, as well as in local Rotary competitions.
The Technology curriculum encourages skills development and understanding through practical application, discussion and student involvement.
During Years 7 and 8, students rotate through three Technology subjects: Design Technology, Food & Nutrition and Textiles. They can then choose two to study during Year 9, which allows for more informed GCSE choices. Uptake at GCSE is high with, routinely, three or four Design Technology groups and two or three Food or Catering groups in each year.
Technology at Key Stage 4 provides an opportunity for students to develop an awareness of the nature and significant importance of the design process in a rapidly changing society. Students engage in both focused practical tasks and longer, more in-depth projects. Assessment is through Non-Examined Assessment (NEA) and a final examination in Food and Design Technology. In Textiles, students follow the Textiles strand of the GCSE Art qualification. A Level 2 Diploma in Engineering is also offered.
We offer the following courses at Key Stage 5: OCR Product Design, AQA Art and Textiles, and WJEC Hospitality and Catering. These courses encompass a wide range of design disciplines but are firmly rooted in the skills required to design and make high quality products.
The Technology Faculty has seven teaching classrooms, two of which are multimedia. All are Wi-Fi linked with computers and have data projectors and speakers. We are well staffed with nine teaching staff and three technicians. We meet regularly to share best practice and peer support in all aspects of our professional roles.
