Knowledge, Experience and Training - School Counsellor
Essential:
A Diploma or Degree in Counselling
Current membership with British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and/or UK Council for Psychotherapy
Experience of counselling in an education setting
Experience of working with young people
Experience of collaborative working with external organisations and agencies
Knowledge, understanding and awareness of mental health issues in young people
Evidence of excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to actively listen
Up to date knowledge of prefessional developments in the field of counselling
Effective planning and time management skills
The ability to work collaboratively with teaching teams
The ability to relate effectively to young people and influence their behaviour
An understanding of child adolescent development and youth mental health interventions
Ability to engage and relate to pupil and parents
Commitment to own personal development
Approachability, encouraging a supportive environment
Warm, empathetic nature
