Knowledge, Experience and Training
Experience:
Experience of working in a school setting, or another setting that supported the wellbeing and safety of children and young people
Experience of working with children, families and external agencies
Experience of building intervention plans to support a child or young person’s individual needs
Experience of writing referrals and processes for external agencies
Knowledge and Understanding:
Understanding of the needs of children and young people, and the challenges that they face
Understanding of the complex nature of student care
Understanding of the external agencies available to support children and young people, and the roles that they hold in doing so
Knowledge and understanding of safeguarding policies and guidelines
Knowledge of Cura/CPOMS and other online safeguarding resources and systems
Skills and Attributes:
Ability to establish good working relationships with a variety of stakeholders and external agencies, and to demonstrate effective team work
Good communication skills
Ability to generate ideas and provide creative solutions to support young people
Solid written communication skills to ensure that records are kept accurately, and that information is communicated with external agencies effectively
Personal Qualities:
Passionate and committed towards strong student care
Resilient when advocating for students with external agencies
High standards of professionalism and confidentiality
Flexibility to a range of professional situations
Reliable with an excellent level of attendance and punctuality
Excellent interpersonal skills
Ability to be reflective and self-critical
Desirable:
Experience of working as a Designated Safeguarding Practitioner
