Core Purpose
We are seeking an Assistant Headteacher to play a key role in the leadership of the school. They will have responsibility for the standards in a Key Stage, supporting excellent attendance, impeccable behaviour and fantastic attitudes to learning as well as ensuring outstanding pastoral care and support. They will be responsible for safeguarding ensuring that the practices are effective and that work is ongoing to ensure there is a whole school approach that challenges all staff to act in accordance with safer working practices at all times. Additionally, they will work with academic and pastoral leaders to develop the curriculum, pedagogical practices and contribute to student voice and leadership. The successful applicant will have excellent leadership and interpersonal skills and, together with the members of the Senior Leadership Team, maintain a relentless focus on teaching and learning, pastoral support and raising achievement.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
Strategic Direction/Shaping the future
To work as a member of the Senior Leadership Team that meets regularly to implement and influence the strategic direction of the school and to plan, organise, monitor and evaluate its successful delivery:
Contribute to modelling the ethos, values and overall purpose of the school
Inspire, challenge, motivate and empower others to attain challenging outcomes
Contribute to the formulation, monitoring, evaluation and implementation of the School Development Plan or equivalent
Collaborate with and guide colleagues in the development and implementation of policies which reflect the school’s commitment to ensure all students make progress
Assist the Headteacher in preparing information for the School Board, including attending meetings if necessary
Be a strong and visible presence in the school and ensure school policies and expectations are adhered to by all staff and to demonstrate a passion for the education of young people
Contribute to School Review, Quality Assurance and Self-Evaluation procedures, including observing lessons, scrutinising work and analysing performance data
Resource and People Management
Lead and line manage middle leaders (academic/pastoral), teachers and support staff within the team to ensure effective provision and delivery of the curriculum, securing high quality teaching, learning and assessment throughout all Key Stages
Participate in the recruitment and deployment of teaching and support staff
Support staff across the whole school in achieving high standards through effectively targeted CPDL.
Implement effective appraisal through line and performance management processes
Assist the Headteacher by ensuring the people and resources within designated areas of responsibility are organised and managed to provide an efficient, effective and safe learning environment
Oversee and evaluate budget allocations to ensure the budget is spent in line with school priorities and best value principles, monitoring and controlling the use of resources and budget according to the school’s agreed financial procedures.
Developing Self and Working with Others
To be a positive role model, treating people fairly, equitably and with dignity and respect to create and maintain a positive school culture
Contribute to good management practice by ensuring positive staff participation and effective communication and procedures
Maintain high standards of professional behaviour and presentation to reflect the expectations made of our students and staff
Strengthening Community
Welcome parental and community involvement in the life and work of the school
Contribute to building a collaborative learning culture within the school and actively engage with other schools to build effective learning partnerships.
Assist the Headteacher and wider Senior Leadership Team to work collaboratively at both strategic and operational levels with parents and carers
Specific Responsibilities
The specific whole school responsibilities of the Assistant Headteacher will include:
Standards in a Key Stage, inspiring the relevant Heads of Year to achieve excellent attendance, impeccable behaviour and fantastic attitudes to learning as well as delivering outstanding pastoral care and support
Safeguarding, ensuring that safeguarding practices are effective and work is ongoing to ensure there is a whole school approach, which challenges all staff to act in accordance with safer working practices at all times
Whole school attendance, ensuring students are supported to achieve excellent attendance
General
Keep up to date with and follow school and Danes Educational Trust ( the ‘Trust’) policies
Effectively manage the financial and physical resources of the school in keeping with designated budget and areas of responsibility

Supervision/Job Context
The post holder is managed by the Headteacher.
Contacts
The post holder will work with the Senior Leadership Team, the SENCO, the academic team, pastoral staff and non-teaching staff. They will work with teaching staff within their faculty as well as teaching staff from other faculties. They will have contact with students, parents, governors, advisors, external agencies and other visitors to the school.
