Core Purpose
To manage and allocate all day to day cover for staff absence, providing fair and effective allocation of cover at all times
Administer and plan cover using the schools management information system
Act as first point of contact for supply teachers and other staff covering lessons or requiring cover for lessons in school
Cover the short term absence of teachers by acting as a Cover Supervisor as required
Main duties and responsibilities
Manage and administer the cover system in accordance with school policy, ensuring that all daily cover requirements are made available to staff in advance of the start of the teaching day
To receive calls from staff regarding their absence and arrange cover as necessary. Ensure that all absence information is passed on to the schools HR Coordinator
To allocate cover effectively and efficiently for all teaching staff absences and to inform relevant staff of any changes to the cover list
To liaise with supply agencies and book staff as required for short term supply
To be the main point of contact for supply staff and authorise timesheets/ working hours with agencies as required
To be responsible for the induction of supply staff
To assist with re-rooming of lessons as required
Plan cover in advance for all future known requirements e.g school trips and events taking place during school time, agreed leave of absence and CPD etc. Make full use of the school calendar in ensuring all future events that require cover /timetable changes / room changes are identified, prioritised and planned accordingly
Collate and issues with the quality of cover work that has been set and inform Heads of Faculty and SLT for Teaching and Learning/Behaviour when issues have arisen
Provide data with regards to cover, including levels of cover undertaken by individual members of staff
Ensure that ‘rarely cover’ guidelines are adhered to
Provide classroom supervision to whole classes in absence of a teacher as required
Create an orderly and purposeful environment in which students can complete work set by the classroom teacher
Support faculties with curriculum administration and support duties when not required for cover during the working day
Assist the EVC Coordinator with administration of trips and visits
Support Reception Staff on a limited daily basis to cover breaks
Undertake training in classroom supervision/management on appointment and update as appropriate
Implement and record school disciplinary and reward systems
Invigilate internal and external exams as required
Accompany visits and field trips as required
Participate in duties as required
Undertake some instruction work with classes as directed
Some marking or lesson preparation on occasions, if the subject is an area of expertise
Any other reasonable duties as required by the SLT
