With Covid-19 running rampid in the streets and an impending zombie apocalypse, it is an absolute bummer we are stuck inside. Even if we do go out, just about all public areas have been closed. WHAT SHOULD WE DO!?!? Poppa Joe is here with answers. Despite gyms being closed, restaurants only doing takeout and gatherings exceeding ten people being outlawed, there is still plenty to do.
The pandemic has been somewhat devastating to many athletes with spring sports being canceled and gyms being closed. Despite this, it can be easy and fun to stay fit at home. First, there are many people who have home gyms. If you have any friends or family who have a weight set or dumbells, it can be fun, healthy and safe to work out together in a group of up to nine. If you do not know anyone off the top of your head who has weights, it is easy to reach out over social media and talk to friends or family that might have home gyms. If you still cannot find anyone, or if nine people is too much for you there is still plenty of opportunity to work out. Body weight movements can work the muscles differently or even better. Pushups, crunches and air squats can all be done at home, outside or in the empty toilet paper aisle. You can run around on the streets, and pull-ups can be done at most parks.
If working out is not your thing, there are a multitude of other options. Streaming services such as Netflix and Amazon Prime Video are stocked up on new movies and TV shows. Both unveil their top ten features ranked each week, but there are other movies and shows that are recommended above those. Namely, AMC’s The Walking Dead and the Resident Evil franchise.
Although unlikely, it is definitely in the cards for society to break down and post-apocalyptic society to ensue. For those of you who have the wonderful misfortune to live in and see this horrifying world, Netflix, Hulu, and Amazon Prime Video have survival manuals in the form of awesome movies and shows. Although there are many informational zombie movies it is unlikely, however mildly possible, that Coivid-19 evolves to wake the dead. Thus, we must suggest simple virus movies. The Cabin Fever franchise and the movie “Carriers” display both what could happen with Corona and what we should do if it gets that bad. Both are available to watch on multiple streaming services.
Remember the immense competence of our government and the fact that Covid-19 has more than a 90 percent survivability rate and is in no way shape or form a science fiction zombie disease or flesh eating virus.
There is plenty else to do than watch TV and work out though. Such artists as Childish Gambino have released new music. Call loved ones you have not had the chance to see since all this started. Go online and learn some new skills. Write an article about your experiences and give them to the Laconian for publishing. The possibilities while you think are limited could be endless if you have the imagination to think of creative things to do.
A great side effect of the pandemic shutting so much of the city down is that the air is cleaner, and with the recent rain the wildlife is thriving. Simply going for a walk can help with the bored and restless feelings that come with being in quarantine.
As we work together to stay healthy it may get uncomfortable, but always keep in mind that your safety and health is the number one priority. Remember to avoid excessive contact with people, to stay in small groups and to stay on top of your class work.
