On the morning of September 11, 2001, the twin towers in New York were struck and collapsed by two of the four planes hijacked by terrorists. First responders showed up to the scene to reduce further damage. A total of 2,977 civilians and first responds alike lost their lives that day. Considered one of the “most devastating foreign attack on U.S. soil” police, firemen, and paramedics all came to help save the lives of strangers because it was their duty to save as many people as possible. The President at the time, George W. Bush along with the rest of the United States were outraged after the attack.
Bush stated, "Freedom itself was attacked this morning by a faceless coward, and freedom will be defended." He responded to the terrorist attack by declaring war on Iraq in 2003 who was led by Saddam Hussein.

intended targets. Shortly after flight 11 hit the North tower; the southern tower was struck by flight 175. The third plane, flight 77, crashed into the Pentagon killing 189 people. The final plane, thanks to the heroic act of an American public relations executive on flight 93 Mark Kendall Bingham, did not hit the final target. Bingham fought back against the terrorist hijackers and prevented the plane from reaching its intended target, the White House. He had caused the plane to crash land in a field located in Shanksville, Pennsylvania.
We at Damien would like to give special thanks to our Spartan brothers who risk their lives in the line of duty every day to protect our country and preserve the welfare of its people. We would also like to give a special recognition to the Cpt. Micheal Joseph Soth who passed in the Vietnam war in an ambush. He received the silver star and the purple heart for his acts of bravery during his final moments. We keep our Micheal Soth and his family in our hearts, and may they be sheltered by God’s everlasting grace.
