Personal Fitness

By Ashlyn Bynion

Can you imagine working out while being able to enjoy it with your friends? Well, Personal Fitness is where this happens. This PEP is an amazing and fun way to take out some of these kids' extra energy and exercise.

What Does Personal Fitness Do?

There are many different things you do in Personal Fitness to work on skills, like cardio and strength. People in this PEP meet up in the gym. One of the activities students do is running around cones in a certain pattern. By doing this, they are working on agility. Students can also play different sports in this PEP. For example, they play basketball games like knockout in teams. Students are always active in Personal Fitness.

Different Rotations in Personal Fitness

Students do different rotations in Personal Fitness. The rotations are split in three sections with color coordinated groups. The first rotation works on strength and stamina. The students will partner up with each other and grab a scarf. They’ll throw it up and race while they try to catch it. The second station is pulse tracing. They learn to track their pulse by resting, jump roping, running, and many other activities. Then they will record and compare their numbers. The third and final rotation is team activities. Students will play different sport games such as knockout in basketball. When they are in the outside rotation, students will work on agility and fitness by running around cones in a certain pattern.

Teachers and Students' Thoughts

“The goal is to get students to enjoy exercise and to get interested in physical activities,” Mr. Dunn, the head of the outside rotation, stated. The teachers are very encouraging to the students and are never down on them for missing a shot. “I think the goal is to experience a wide variety of activities outside of school,” Mrs. Andrews explained. In Personal Fitness, students are able to get a variety of choices and are able to hang out with their friends too. This PEP is a great way to learn how to be fit.
