Destination Imagination

The 5th grade team of Sudie $criptor$ won 2nd at Regionals, 6th at State, and became the first Sudie team to qualify for the D.I. Global competition in May.

The Sudie $criptor$ placed 23rd overall out of 51 teams at Globals, participated in an Olympic-styled opening ceremony with a parade of states, and two workshops led by D.I. alumnus Daniel Schneiner, Oscar winner for writing and directing Everything Everywhere All at Once.

A team of four 8th graders competed in the Texas State Chess Championships in McAllen Texas: Rocky Lancaster, Nygel Chitrathorn, Sutton Wall, and Ashton Villalovos.

Sudie hosted its first-ever Sudie Invitational Chess Tournament in March. The 4-5th grade team won 2nd place. The 6-12th grade team won 1st place.

Games Club/ ESports

Dallas ISD ESports Tournament

2 students advanced to the final round of Fortnite – 7th graders Myles Richey and Lincoln Guild

Separately, newly-started Games Club with D&D players/ enthusiasts meet with Ms. Garnica in the Library

GEMUN (Global U.N.)

Students served as delegates representing Mexico and Ireland at a two-day Global Model U.N. Conference

Student delegates presented resolutions on Security Council reform, protecting the rights of children in armed conflict, workers’ rights, eliminating gender barriers in education, scarcity of drinking water, and more. This work is the culmination of a year’s worth of research on the U.N., their countries, and world concerns.

Declan Shopoff and Manha Raza received honorable mentions for their work in committee

Savannah Bell recognized as an outstanding delegate for the Human Rights Council

Sam McAnear received the prestigious Peace Prize Nomination

All resolutions passed that were not in Security Council, and those resolutions will be sent to the actual United Nations in New York  City.

In December, GEMUN held its annual Winter Party celebrated Security Council Countries Mexico and Ireland with food, decorations, and games from these countries.



House Council

Learned Roberts Rules of Order for running meetings, introducing motions, and voting on resolutions.

Worked with United to learn in campus beautification projects, including creating calming corners in 7 classrooms, painting the set for Footloose, installing new bulletin board displays, creating garden signs, and tidying up the garden

Led the annual Sudie Serves house competition to collect donations for nonprofit organizations chosen by each house, including Toys for Tots and animal shelters in the region.

Helped organize the Middle School Winter ball with the PTA.

National Jr. Honor Society

First-ever induction ceremony held in September. NJHS is currently limited to 8th graders. Unlike at many schools where admittance into NJHS is driven by academic achievement, at Sudie, students who apply must demonstrate their commitment to each of the NJSH pillars: Scholarship, Leadership, Citizenship, and Character.

Choir

All 5 Sudie students competing in their first UIL Solo & Ensemble contest earned 1st Division ratings, the highest level possible.

On their first try, 3 Sudie students auditioned for and made the All-Region Choir in January.

Sudie Show Choir was invited to perform at the Galleria’s Holiday Extravaganza December.

Sudie Choir was invited for the second year in a row to sing the National Anthem at a televised SMU basketball game.

Honor Treble Choir earned 1st and 2nd Division ratings (outstanding & excellent) at its first UIL Choir Contest March.

6th grade Choir member Sophia Reyes was selected (based on her singing audition) for the prestigious Honors Performance Series, a national middle school choir program in New York City. Participation in the Honors Ensemble is limited to the highest-rated young performers from across the world. Sophia attended the summer workshop and performed with the choir at Carnegie Hall in June 2023.

Entire Sudie Orchestra performed in the Su-Chella Fine Arts showcase in December—including 4th and 5th grade students new to playing an instrument

Performed in concert at W.T. White High School with strings students from 13 schools, the largest instrumental performance of its kind in DISD.

North Texas Teen Book Festival

In March 2023, librarian Amy Garnica took a group of students to the first North Texas Teen Book Festival to convene since Covid (2020). Students met favorite authors, picked up autographs for their books, and celebrated their love for reading.
