COVID VACCINE

DRIVE-THRU EVENT FAQ

Why is this event tentative?

Solar is currently awaiting approval from the district but will let parents know as soon as the date/location is finalized.

Has the 5-11 Covid vaccine been approved?

The FDA has authorized the vaccine but we are waiting for the ACIP recommendations. That meeting is being held on November 2nd.  We are planning the vaccine drive based on the assumption that ACIP will recommend the vaccine for children 5-11.

Who will be eligible to get the vaccine?

Again, this will depend on ACIP recommendation.  Presumably, the vaccine will be recommended for all children 5-11 years old.

Can my child get a vaccine if she is 4 but almost turning 5?

No, we cannot immunize any child with a birthdate before 11/6/16.

What if my child just had the flu shot?

There should be no reason to wait anytime between the covid vaccine and the flu shot.

What if my child just had covid?

You should talk with your child’s doctor but in general you can get the covid vaccine as soon as your ten days of covid infection are over.

What if my child is on quarantine for covid exposure?

Your child should complete their quarantine and then get the covid vaccine.

What if my child has severe anaphylaxis allergies?

You should bring your child’s epi pen with you, plan to watch your child closely for first 15 minutes.

What will the drive through look like/how do I support my child?

You will pull up, fill out a consent form, and then your child will sit in your lap if necessary and they will get their shot.

What brand of shot will we be getting?

Pfizer orange cap.

If I had bad side effects will my child likely have them as well?

No, in the safety study, the most common side effect was a sore arm, and mild fever but less frequently in adults. The dose they get is ⅓ the size of the adult dose.

Where will the injection be given?

In the upper arm in the deltoid muscle. It is about half the size of usual vaccines which means it should go in fast and be over quickly

Who will be giving the vaccine?

Licensed and practicing physicians who are also parents at Solar.

Will there be a second dose?

Yes, the covid vaccine is given in a 2- dose series. We anticipate having another vaccine drive for second doses but there should be more options available at that time such as your pediatrician’s office, pharmacies, etc. This will be determined after our vaccine drive. If we have enough vaccines to host 2 vaccine drives we certainly will.

What do I need to do before I come?

Make sure your child is fever free and well hydrated. Also, make sure you and your child are masked.

Will I get a CDC vaccine card?

Yes

Do I need to fill out a form before I go?

We would like to have a head count - so please fill out this form if you plan to attend.
