As a student in a Early College High School (ECHS), you will have the opportunity to earn an Associate of Science or an Associate of Arts degree, in addition to a High School Diploma.
Students who earn their Associate of Science will complete up to 60 hours of college credit which can be transferred to a four-year university and applied towards the degree of your choice. In doing so, students can eliminate up to two full years of college coursework and thousands of dollars in college tuition costs.
Students who earn their Associate of Arts and Teaching Pathway will complete two years of required coursework focused on Education. Students will intern/student teach in Dallas ISD and, upon graduation from a four-year university, are guaranteed a job in Dallas ISD. If you are interested in a more accelerated track, after completion of your Associate of Arts in Teaching (AAT), you can choose to participate in the Texas Tech, Texas Teach 2 Plus 1 Program. In doing so, you can earn a Bachelor's Degree and Teacher Certification in one year.
Through Career Institutes, you have the option of pursuing Industry Certificates without the Associate of Sciences or Arts. Click here to learn more.
Students will take a combination of advanced placement and dual credit courses, both at Samuell High School and Dallas College Eastfield Campus. Through our partnership with Dallas ISD, Human Capital Management, students will participate in workplace learning activities to help prepare them for college, careers, and life. Additionally, you will have individualized support and guidance through the college and scholarship application process.

Admission to the program is based off of your desire and tenacity to complete an accelerated course of study, understanding the academic and behavioral expectations of the Early College program. Students must successfully complete all of the requirements of a traditional High School Diploma along with 60 hours of college courses. Additionally, students must complete 25 hours of community service per grade level, prior to graduation. Given these rigorous demands, students must prioritize their education, extending their commitment to learning through a four-year degree program.
Dallas ISD will begin accepting applications on November 1, 2020 for the 2021-22 school year. Eighth grade students who will be high school freshmen Fall 2021 may complete and submit an online application.
