The vision of the Dallas ISD Career Institutes is to provide high school students a choice to pursue a Career and Technical Education (CTE) Pathway, work with industry partners, train on state-of-the-art, industry-standard equipment, obtain four or more certifications, and obtain dual credit when appropriate, prior to graduation. A Career Institute will prepare students for high skill, high wage, and high demand occupations.
As a student at H. Grady Spruce High School or W.W. Samuell High School, you can pursue Industry Certificates through Career Institute East, Developing Leaders and Building Futures, in one of six pathways:
Interior Design
Interior Designers are a combination of architects, engineers, trades people, and interior decorators. In this pathway you will learn about documentation, safety, space planning, material selection, green design, and much more.

Construction
This pathway is an introduction to the carpentry trade and its application as a career in the construction industry. You will apply classroom curriculum to assigned shop projects and begin site preparation and layout for the fall and spring semester’s class projects.

Cybersecurity
Cybersecurity careers involve learning how to stop internet hackers by protecting online/technology data and electronic systems. In this pathway you will learn how to problem solve to maintain safety in systems and data for individuals and businesses.

Electrical and Solar Technology
The Electrical and Solar Technology pathway introduces students to the basic principles of electricity. You will participate in fully equipped laboratory experiences setting up circuits, troubleshooting and calibrating systems, computer-simulated circuit analysis.

Heating, Ventilation, Air-Conditioning, and Refrigeration (HVAC)
Students will learn trade-specific basic safety practices, hand and power tools identification and usage, metal piping systems, the fundamentals of electricity, and basic heating systems. Additionally, students will earn the OSHA Safety Certification.

Plumbing and Pipe-Fitting
This pathway prepares students to practice as licensed plumbers or pipefitters by applying technical knowledge, safety and skills to layout, assemble, install and maintain plumbing fixtures and systems in home and business environments.

Either on A or B days, you will spend half the day - 2 periods - at the Career Institute East campus.
