PLEASE NOTE, IF YOU ARE APPLYING FOR PRIVATE LESSONS, INSTRUMENTS OR
INTENSIVES THERE IS ONLY ONE CYCLE PER YEAR FOR THOSE REQUESTS. PLEASE
APPLY DURING THE APPROPRIATE CYCLE.

The Advisory Board has representatives in the Library every Thursday during lunch to
answer student and parent questions and help with applications. We highly recommend
having your application reviewed before submitting (especially the first time you apply). It
increases your understanding of the process and will ensure your application is
completed in the way the committee expects, thereby increasing your odds of an award.

All applications are completed online at https://artsmagnet.smapply.org/ and must include:
Transcript (Freshmen may use their schedule if applying 1st Semester)
Artistic Resume
Portfolio Material (visual display of artistry)
Faculty recommendation (see application)
AHHI
Budget for request
Parent approval
Process:
Student submits application by deadline (completely an online process). Student essays
must be written in the library during a Work It Wednesday Essay session. 2 sessions will
be provided each grant cycle if possible. Dates for Essay sessions will be sent out via
Remind.
Committee reviews all applications individually
Committee meets to make award decisions
Notification emails are sent by end of month to students
Grants are fulfilled through the Advisory Board office. Students are not given money
directly. The award will be processed/paid for by the Advisory Board directly through the
vendor/instructor. This includes travel arrangements. Awarded funding must be spent by
July 31, 2027
Restrictions:
Only one instrument will be awarded to a student per year, no more than 2 during their
time at Booker T Washington
Summer Intensives are not awarded to Seniors
Only one summer intensive will be awarded to a student per year, no more than 2 during
their time at Booker T Washington
On college visits only one parents travel will be covered. For summer intensives no parent
travel will be covered
For any technology request strong artistic reasoning and support must be presented.
Computers/software/etc. will not be awarded for academic or organizational purposes.
Computers are not awarded to Seniors during the Spring semester.
Caps on Funding:
Private Lessons: $3000
Technology: $3000
Musical Instruments: $6000
Intensives: $5000
Students will not receive more than $8000 in total funding during any academic school
year.
