How can I get involved with Showcase?
There is a section below introducing Showcase, but to volunteer here is the shortest version:
Contact your student’s Guild (links to each guild are under the Fast Lane section at the top of this newsletter).
Register as a DISD Voly volunteer so you’re cleared through the district and our Raptor security system. This is the system we use to check you in to enter the building each day.
You can complete both the registration and notification steps at this link.
How is the Cell phone policy going?
Overall, it has been good. There are numerous earbuds emerging. We are also seeing a lot of students who claim they are leaving their phones at home, but we are finding that students have snuck them in. This is a Texas State Law, so we must comply with it.
Parents, please help us explain that this is the rule. Students, please understand that we are following the law and that we are all adjusting to this. Notice it has slowed things down a little, and that is good for our nervous systems- all of us. You can access much of what you need on your laptop; even Remind can be accessed there. So let's please all comply with the law.

Would you or someone that you know or recommend like to speak at our annual Showcase/Career Day?
November 20th and November 21st from 9:15am until 4:30pm.
The presentation can cover anything, such as showcasing your body of work, giving information about your organization, giving a performance, sharing tips and advice, teaching a short lesson, and Q&A time. Our career speaker sessions have always been fun and a great experience for both our students and our speakers!
You will be able to choose one or both dates and time slots as well as the arts conservatory that you are most interested in as your audience. A few of the sessions will be students in various conservatories and they will be mostly 9th and 10th graders.
Please contact Caroline Jones, Lead Counselor, at carojones@dallasisd.org, to sign up!
Thank you!
What is it?
College Showcase Week, sponsored by the Junior League of Dallas through a grant and a partnership spanning more than 35 years, is coming up November 19-22! This is one of the most exciting times of the year at Booker T. Washington — when our seniors present their best work to visiting college representatives.
It’s a transformative week for our students. Even those who don’t receive a scholarship or admission offer gain invaluable experience in preparing and presenting a professional body of work that reflects their skills and growth. As part of the weeks events, we will host a college fair on Friday, November 21st. College Fair for Seniors starts at 3:30p.m. And for underclassmen, it starts at 4:30p.m.
What to Expect
Each conservatory hosts a variety of masterclasses and opportunities for students to meet college reps. Curious what it looks like? You can view last year’s At-a-Glance schedule (2024) document for reference. Please note: this is not the 2025 schedule — just an example of what to expect.
Volunteer Opportunities
We’d love to have your help! Only underclass parents (9th–11th grade) may volunteer during Showcase Week — senior parents may not volunteer to ensure an equitable experience for students.
To get involved:
Contact your student’s Guild (links are under the Fast Lane section at the top of this newsletter).
Register as a DISD Voly volunteer so you’re cleared through the district and our Raptor security system. This is the system we use to check you in to enter the building each day.
