Reminder- Faculty Parking Lot is OFF LIMITS for student drop off. It is dangerous to use this area for this purpose. Please find another way to drop your student off in the mornings. Examples: the circle drive, Flora St. in front of the Winspear, Jack Evans, next to the Wiley theatre.
All students must remain in the Cafeterias upon arrival until 8:30. At that time, students are allowed on the Zero and 1st floors, the green room, and the library unless they are meeting a teacher before class with a smart pass. Students may go to their classes at 9:05, when the bell rings.
The Senior Cafeteria is for Seniors only
What do I do if I am missing a new ID?
Retakes are September 5th. If you have an ID form from last year, use the old one until you get a new one. Otherwise, you will need to get a temporary badge.
Why can't I have my phone if I believe there are special circumstances for me?
The phone policy is a state law, and we must abide by Texas law. Please help us help our students and staff navigate this change. Thank you for your understanding and support when we have to uphold the new laws and policies.
When are senior yearbook photos going to be ready?
You should get your students' gallery via the email you provided to the photographer this week. ?'s please contact vklimaszewski@dallasisd.org

Parking During the School Day and After Hours
10th-11th - The J lot underneath Woodall Rogers Freeway. Underclassmen can park there. After hours, this lot is always open for free parking during all after-school events.
12th grade - Seniors will park in the Silver parking lot under Moody Performing Arts Center. This lot is only available with special permission after hours during special events.
Where is the J Lot? Where is the Silver parking garage? How do we access them?
The Silver Parking Lot is for seniors, and it is located across from the senior entrance, under the Moody Performing Arts Center. Enter from Ross Ave by turning onto Jack Evans Street and entering the underground parking garage. You will need a parking pass. See Ms. Grantonic for payment. $50.
J Lot is for underclass students, it is under Woodall Rodgers Freeway at the corner of Woodall and Routh St. Once parked, you will walk across the access road at the light.
J Lot from the north: by the access road from I-75, heading towards the school. Turn left into the lot before you get to Routh St/Maple Routh Connection.
J lot from the school: go under the highway on Routh, (it turns into Routh St/Maple Routh Connection) take a right on, then a right on Boll Street and a right on the access Road and cross over into the lot.

Morning (8–9 AM in the Green Room)
* Find Ms. K at the top of the Green Room.
* Check in, get your reservation page, and mark your spot on the map.
* With a partner, grab a table and set it up on your chalk-marked X.
* Tape your reservation page to your table.
* No decorating or setting up until 12:00 (Flex).
During Flex (12:00 PM)
* Check in with your Flex teacher.
* You have about 20 minutes to set up your table.
* Around 12:25, everyone is released (via intercom) for Club Fair.
Lunch / After Fair
* Everyone has one lunch.
* When finished, take down your display.
* Return your table to where you got it.
* No tables should be left standing after lunch.

WELCOME NEW FACULTY
Fredy Juarez-Juarez - Spanish
Hola! My name is Fredy Juarez, and I am excited to be part of the BTW family as one of the Spanish teachers. I am passionate about helping students grow their language skills while they learn about Hispanic culture. My goal is to create a welcoming classroom where each one of my students feels valued and encouraged to do their best. I look forward to working together with parents and faculty to support our students' success.
Shannon Cagle - Math
My name is Shannon Cagle, and I am thrilled to be starting my seventh year of teaching mathematics. This year I will be teaching Algebra 1 and Geometry, and I am especially excited to be spending my first full year at Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts. I am passionate about helping students build confidence in math by connecting concepts to real-world applications and creative problem-solving. I look forward to an inspiring year of growth, discovery, and success together.
Avery Alexander - Dance
Avery Alexander is a graduate of Booker T. Washington HSPVA and earned her BFA in Dance Performance with minors in Arts Management and Arts Entrepreneurship from Southern Methodist University. Her performance credits include Norwegian Cruise Lines, B. Moore Dance, Jubilee Theatre, and venues like Bass Hall, Winspear Opera House, and The Joyce Theater. She has performed works by choreographers such as Robert Battle, Jessica Lang, and Dwight Rhoden. Avery has enjoyed teaching various dance styles to youth and adults across the DFW area for the past seven years.
Megan Grantonic - Financial Clerk
I am a native Texan that loves all things nature and outdoors. I stay busy with my husband, two teen boys and a golden retriever named Doug. This will be my 11th year in education, and I’m so excited to join the Pegasus family!
Jessica Raff - Printing Making, Drawing & AP Art History
Jessica Raff is a Dallas-based artist entering her 13th year in education. She received her BA from California State University, Fresno, in 2011 and her Master of Fine Arts in Printmaking from the University of Dallas in 2015. She has had the opportunity to teach at Tarrant County College and, most recently, taught International Baccalaureate visual arts and film at Woodrow Wilson High School for seven years. She is passionate about equity in the arts classroom, raising over $75,000 in grants and awards for her students. She is excited to join the arts faculty at Booker T. Washington!
Kelly Nicholson - Economics
I'm Kelly Nicholson, a distinguished educator and professional with a diverse background in academics, aviation, and administration. My journey began in Denver, NC, where I graduated with honors from East Lincoln High School and pursued higher education, earning multiple degrees through a strong commitment to academics.
My career path has been unique, including a period as a certified flight instructor. A notable experience involved teaching Chinese airline students to fly in the United States, an endeavor that was particularly impactful considering the cultural context surrounding women pilots in China.
I am currently thrilled to be part of Dallas ISD, where I look forward to working with students in AP Macroeconomics, AP Human Geography, and Personal Financial Literacy and Economics. My professional interests also extend to researching the current limits of AI models and the influence of user interactions on pattern convergence within these systems.
Amber Baker Edwards - Testing Coordinator
Amber Baker Edwards is the new Student Success Coordinator over 504 and Testing at Booker T. Washington HSPVA. A proud alum of the school’s Dance Cluster, she brings over 14 years of experience in education, having taught in districts across Jefferson, Harris, and Dallas counties. Amber made history as the first African American dance teacher and director at Crowley High School and helped build the fine arts department at Texas’ second-largest charter network, Uplift Education. Career highlights include performing at the Kennedy Center and dancing alongside Beyoncé and Destiny’s Child at the 2004 Cowboys Thanksgiving halftime show. Passionate about using the arts to heal and empower students, Amber is honored to return to BTW—a place of sanctuary and inspiration in her own journey.
Joel Duarte - Choir
I believe music and the arts holds a power unlike any other. Through my studies at Wayland Baptist University (BM) and Southern Methodist University (MM), and 15 years of teaching, my students and I have been empowered through sharing enriched musical experiences. I am passionate about teaching and mentoring students to strive for their dreams. I am humbly honored to be a part of BTWVPA and creating magical moments with our students.
Emmanuel Gillespie - 3D Art
Hello, my name is Emmanuel Gillespie. I am the 3D Art teacher here at the Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Art (Arts), and I am also an alumn. I am a working artist whose goals are to continuously bring this passion and skills to the classroom! I am looking forward to all the amazing outcomes in art that will be constructed this year!
Sierra Noelle Jones - Dance
Sierra Noelle Jones (she/her), a Maryland native, is a multifaceted artist and arts leader. She profoundly contributes to the performing arts through dancing, education, advocacy, choreography, and leadership. Sierra is deeply committed to transparency, integrity, and ethics, prioritizing these values to inspire compassion, duty of care, and excellence among artists and arts organizations alike. Her teaching philosophy is firmly rooted in maintaining both technical mastery and artistic integrity. Sierra's rigorous training began at institutions like Donna’s Dance A Company, The Dance Institute of Washington, Baltimore School for the Arts, and The Dance Theatre of Harlem’s Pre-Professional Residency Program. She is an honors graduate of Virginia Commonwealth University where she earned a Bachelors of Fine Art in Dance & Choreography. Her professional career launched with Dallas Black Dance Theatre, followed by a debut with Houston Grand Opera. She boasts an extensive list of collaborations with major artistic organizations, including Broadway Dallas, The Dallas Opera, AT&T Performing Arts Center, and the Dallas Symphony Orchestra. Sierra has also performed and taught nationally and internationally. She is a recent graduate of the Business Council for the Arts' Leadership Arts Institute (LAI) and a proud member of both Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, and the American Guild of Musical Artists (AGMA). Sierra is a proven leader. She served three years on the Auxiliary Board for the AT&T Performing Arts Center, including a term as Board Chair. Sierra is now thrilled to join the Dance Conservatory Faculty at Booker T. Washington HSPVA, bringing her wealth of experience and dedication to the next generation.
Sara Vargas - Office Manager
With over 21 years of experience in Dallas ISD, I bring dedication, organization, and a passion for supporting students and staff. I have served as an Office Manager for the past seven years, ensuring smooth daily operations, managing administrative tasks, and fostering a positive environment for students, educators, and parents.
