Our 7th graders are wrapping up their Create-an-App project and they have done an incredible job blending history, creativity, and design thinking! For this project, students chose a real problem that existed during the Road to Revolution or Texas Revolution and imagined an app that could have helped people living in the 1820s and 1830s solve that issue.
To help kick off the project, students even heard from a professional software engineer who taught them about the idea of user story mapping—a process used in real app development to break down features, user needs, and purpose. Students are now applying this same process in their work as they build out their app concepts, identify core functions, define their audience, and justify why their app would have been needed in early Texas.
The project will conclude with students presenting their app concepts and showcasing the real-world thinking behind their designs. This project allows students to connect history to modern innovation—showing them that technology isn’t just now… it can help us reimagine the past too! 🚀📱
